Fourteen teams, seven men and seven women, competed at the National Intercollegiate Tournament held April 7-11 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Only two universities have ever won both men’s and women’s tournaments in the same year – UVA and UC Davis. This year the final matches proved to be very competitive.

No. 1 seated Cornell women with an undefeated season came up two goals short of the no. 2 ranked University of Virginia women. Read more

The Virginia Polo Center in Charlottesville, Virginia, played a series of exhibition matches on September 19 and 20, with the home team challenging college teams from England.

The event was put on by the BDG Virginia Polo Society, founded by UVA polo players Joevy Beh, Mauricio Diaz and Alexander Goodenough.

According to society chairman Beh, the idea for the group came about on a road trip to New York. “We were heading to Cornell for a polo game, and that nine hours of driving to Cornell was the day the BDG Virginia Polo Society was formed,” says Beh. Read more

The 24th Annual Harriman Cup was held at Ox Ridge Hunt Club on 27th September 2008.

The event celebrates 24 years of polo tradition between the Univertsity of Virginia and Yale University alumni, and benefits each school’s polo teams. The match commemorates the life f diplomat and sportman Averell Harriman, a Yale University graduate, top-level diplomatic negotiator for five Democratic presidents, and former New York governor.
